Please read the following information regarding CE requirements:

Certificates of attendance are suitable for use to meet professional development requirements for educators and clinicians. Attendees can earn up to 20 contact hours of credit by attending the four-day institute. See details on the number of hours and types of credit below.


In order to receive any professional development credits, you must fill out the evaluation/learning outcomes questionnaire and leave the form with institute staff. Certificates will be emailed to you 2-3 weeks after the institute.

You can also receive additional credits by writing a paper on how you applied what you learned. For more details and questions, contact the CE Director, Kristin Dunay at (781) 449-4010 ext. 104.

The Power of Mindsets: Promoting Positive School Climates and Motivation in Students

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES


SLP participants will be able to:

  • Discuss methods to reinforce student engagement, intrinsic motivation and a positive school climate
  • Explain the ability of students to cope with stress and become more resilient
  • List ways to strengthen empathy and empathic communication
  • Reflect on ideas that empower students to develop an increasing sense of ownership and responsibility for their own education
  • Employ methods to minimize and change "negative scripts" that exist in the school environment
  • List ways to reinforce student caring and lessen bullying
  • Develop personal strategies to become "stress hardy" and lessen feelings of disillusionment and burnout

 

Robert Brooks, PhD, is a psychologist on the faculty, part-time of Harvard Medical School and former Director of the Department of Psychology at McLean Hospital, a private psychiatric facility. His first position at McLean was as principal of the school in the locked door unit of the child and adolescent program. Dr. Brooks received his doctorate in clinical psychology from Clark University and did postdoctoral training at the University of Colorado Medical CenterFinancial disclosure – Dr. Brooks is receiving a speaking fee for his presentation. He is an author with Treehaus Communications, Wiley and McGraw-Hill for which he receives royalty payments. Additionally he plans to use examples (case studies) or experiences from his private practice during the institute. Non-financial disclosure – Dr. Brooks has no relevant non-financial relationships to disclose.

 
Suzanne Brooks, PsyD learned a certification in School Psychology and a masters in Early Childhood Psychology from Fordham University and a doctorate in School/Clinical Child Psychology from Yeshiva University's Ferkauf Graduate School of PsychologyFinancial disclosure – Dr. Brooks is receiving an honorarium for her presentation. Credits for Psychologists and School Psychologists:
Public Information Resources, Inc. (PIRI) is approved by the American Psychological Association to offer continuing education for psychologists. PIRI maintains responsibility for the program. Psychologists and school psychologists must complete the evaluation form in their program book in order to receive credits. This program will provide 20 hours of CEs.

Credits for Educators: State Department of Education:
PIRI is able to provide credits that qualify for the education departments in most states and are accepted by most districts. You may wish to check whether your state's Department of Education requires special approved provider status. PIRI is a specifically approved provider in the Departments of Education in the states of TX and CT.

Credits for School Social Workers: Public Information Resources, Inc., has applied for up to 20 Category I credits to social workers through the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) collaborative through Boston College and Simmons College Schools of Social Work.

Credits for Educational Therapists:
Public Information Resources, Inc. is approved to provide continuing education credits for Education Therapists through The Association of Educational Therapists (AET). This program will provide 20 hours of CEs. 

Certificate of Attendance: 
Public Information Resources, Inc. will provide a certificate of attendance for 20 hours for participation in this program.
